At Hoogweg Paprikakwekerijen, we consider a responsible energy supply to be essential. Using modern technologies, we ensure that our greenhouses are sustainably provided with heat, CO₂, and electricity. To achieve this, we make use of solar panels, geothermal energy, biomass, and CHP units.

Solar panels

Since 2023, we have been using solar panels to generate energy sustainably.

Geothermal energy

The next step Hoogweg took in 2018 was geothermal energy. By using warm water from the deeper layers of the earth, we aim to meet the majority of our heat demand with green energy.

Biomass

In 2020, construction began on a biomass installation. In this installation, certified wood chips are combusted, and the heat that is released is used to warm the greenhouses.
This installation will only operate when geothermal energy cannot supply enough heat.

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units

When using CHP units (Combined Heat and Power), fuel is combusted to produce electricity. This process also generates CO₂ and heat. Both the CO₂ and the heat are used in the greenhouse to support optimal growth of the plants.
